An unforgettable ocean adventure along the wild coast of Cape Breton Island awaits you at Bird Island Boat Tours. Since 1972, three generations of the Van Schaick family have been guiding guests out to Bird Island to witness Atlantic puffins, bald eagles, grey seals, and a remarkable variety of seabirds in their natural habitat.
Our 37-foot vessel, the Puffin Express, carries you comfortably along the rugged Cape Breton coastline to the Bird Islands — one of the best places in the world to watch Atlantic puffins up close. Our tours are narrated, accessible, and designed for guests of all ages.

A Cape Breton Legacy
Bird Island Boat Tours has been a Cape Breton fixture since 1972, when Captain Joe Van Schaick first guided guests out to see the puffins. His son Captain Vince carried on the tradition, and today Captain Ian — the third generation — continues the family story with the same passion for the sea and its wildlife.
